It was a hard-fought seven-game series, but the Nuggets managed to survive for their first playoff series win in a decade, not to mention their second-ever playoff series win over the rival Spurs. However, the Nuggets finally got a little redemption while also giving their rivalry with San Antonio a little jolt when they beat the Spurs in the First Round of the 2019 playoffs. In fact, the Nuggets were the first team the Spurs beat in the playoffs on their way to winning the NBA title in both 20. Not surprisingly, most have been won by San Antonio, including a couple of sweeps. In addition to a few meetings every year during the regular season, the Spurs and Nuggets have clashed in the playoffs over half a dozen times. Since then, these two teams have played each other more than either team has played any other team, and so it’s always a special occasion when the Spurs and Nuggets renew their longstanding rivalry. However, the Spurs and Nuggets have a lot of history, as they were both born in 1967 when the Spurs were the Dallas Chaparrals, and the Nuggets were the Denver Rockets. Granted, this rivalry is easy to forget about because the two teams have rarely been good at the same time, limiting the number of high-intensity games for Western Conference supremacy. Without question, one of the most overlooked rivalries in NBA history is the one between the San Antonio Spurs and Denver Nuggets.
